Science Policy

1st off, the liberals constantly accuse conservatives of being anti-science. That is a rediculous assertation since most liberals do NOT have a scientific, technical or engineering background (that is a non-scientific observation on my part without any statistical data to back it up ;-). The most heralded natural scientists throughout history have been deeply religious (Newton, Franklin, Einstein,etc). It is liberals that think science is the Utopian end-all answer to all questions. Science today is not even scratching the surface of what we can know and is not even close to being "exactly" correct on anything.

Junk science (like global climate change hysteria) mixed with politics is dangerous. Conservatives are against junk science, especially when politically motivated.

Few challenges facing America and the world are less urgent than combating the non-problem of "global warming". On all measures, there has been no increase in global mean surface temperatures since 1995; and, according to the University of Alabama at Huntsville, near-surface temperatures in 2008 were lower than in 1980, 28 years ago, the first complete year of satellite observations.

On all measures, global temperatures have been falling for 8 full years since late 2001. The January-to-January fall in temperatures between 2007 and 2008 was the greatest since global temperature records were first compiled in 1880, 128 years ago. The rate of new Arctic sea-ice formation in mid-October 2008 was among the fastest since satellite records began almost 30 years ago. There has been no decline whatsoever in the total global extent of sea ice since satellite records began. New records for the extent of northern-hemisphere snow cover were observed by the satellites in the winter of 2001 and again in 2007. This year, many ski resorts are opening early as Arctic weather strikes. Many temperature stations in the northern hemisphere recorded record low temperatures in October/November 2008. Source

Stem Cell Facts

First, embryonic stem cell research is not banned in the United States. The US leads the world in ESCR funding, and has the largest number of established embryonic stem-cell lines available for research. In 2004, the U.S. government spent $24 million on human ESCR. Bush's veto merely kept in place the expansion of research beyond the ESCR lines already destroyed.

Second, not surprisingly very few of the media hype stories about ESCR mention the very risky side-effects. Those who have done little research believe that you can simply get a shot of ESC's and it will cure diseases. That is far from being the case.

Again this demonstrates the hubris of naive liberals and their religious "beliefs" in Utopian scientific solutions or catastrophic man made problems.

On Intelligent Design versus Evolution

I am not going to try and defend "intelligent" design here, what I want to say is that Christians, Jews, Muslims and many other religions believe in a creator.

Many of us also believe "science" is imperfect and is continously evolving and teaching us new things about our "created" universe. No science is ever settled by humans! Take the century old sciences of Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity for instance. Both can be verified to 12 decimal places in the world's best labs, but they contradict each other! Also, try as we might, humans have never been able to create "life" in a labratory - just alter it.

Intelligent design refers to a scientific research program as well as a community of scientists, philosophers and other scholars who seek evidence of design in nature. The theory of intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection.

Through the study and analysis of a system's components, a design theorist is able to determine whether various natural structures are the product of chance, natural law, intelligent design, or some combination thereof. Such research by observing the types of information produced when intelligent agents act. Scientists then seek to find objects which have those same types of informational properties which we commonly know come from intelligence.

Intelligent design has applied these scientific methods to detect design in irreducibly complex biological structures, the complex and specified information content in DNA, the life-sustaining physical architecture of the universe, and the geologically rapid origin of biological diversity in the fossil record during the Cambrian explosion approximately 530 million years ago.
